Myanma Port Authority (MPA), reorganized 31 March 1989 from the former Burma Ports Corporation, is the state-owned agency under Myanmar's Ministry of Transport and Communications regulating and administering the country's coastal ports, handling roughly 90% of Myanmar's maritime trade through Yangon and other facilities. DISCLOSURE (per the KBZ Bank precedent): per Myanmar Now investigative reporting, MPA's managing director has, by long-standing practice since 1990, simultaneously sat on the board of directors of Myanmar Economic Holdings Limited (MEHL) -- one of the two military conglomerates under direct OFAC/UK/EU sanctions -- an arrangement a former army official confirmed as standard practice, criticized as a conflict of interest even before the 2021 coup. MPA itself is not directly sanctioned. The alternative Yangon terminal operator, Asia World Port Terminal, was deliberately NOT selected for this directory: its parent Asia World Co. has been on the OFAC SDN list since 2008.
